Waxed terra-cotta floors welcome barefoot living…Moroccan rugs and Bedouin cushions adorn the open-air courtyard, perfect for yoga practice or for relaxing by the warmth of a roaring fire…the artful homeowner of this desert oasis? French shoe designer Christian Louboutin! What a sensitive contrast to his fast paced city life! He must be in love with the warm golden light…just looking at the first image slows my pulse and puts my mind at ease…I hope this post offers you some peace and beauty this afternoon

the foyer is our interior world’s first impression…whether we’re greeted by an artful staircase or a beloved work of art, we experience a taste of what’s to come…an amuse-bouche, if you will, to whet our appetites…bon appetit!

The September 2012 issue of House Beautiful features eleven fabulous front doors from the likes of Miles Redd, Windsor Smith and Lars Bolander…having just completed a major outdoor renovation this summer, I thought it would be fun to feature my front door today! Freshly painted with a coat of high gloss blank paint and adorned with an antique English door knocker, its masculine weight provides a lovely contrast to the beachy bramble colored shingles and clean white trim…the lantern is a new addition to our door-scape…during the day, it offers a much needed sculptural presence, balancing well with the color and texture of the twig wreath…at night, it glows with a soft warm light, perfect for drinks at the cafe table or for welcoming dinner guests!

Look no further than mother nature for her effortless color combinations and infinitely mesmerizing patterns…the coral and pink moths from yesterday’s post had my head reeling with favorite works of art, interiors and textiles that recall these brilliant hues…enjoy!

With thoughts of summer flora and graceful butterflies swirling in my head, I am reminded of the glorious work of Joseph Scheer…
Having made digital scans of more than 1,200 species, artist Joseph Scheer sees moths as “beautiful night creatures that are more diverse than butterflies”…his oversize limited edition prints, ranging in size from 34-by-46-inch to 60-by-96-inch, transform these magical micro creatures into macro works of art…intricate patterns and sublime colors command attention….nature at her best…and to think, so much of this beauty is just outside our doorstep…
The images in today’s post are a sampling of Scheer’s Spring 2009 exhibit from Bergdorf Goodman titled “life within awareness” …current works are available through Ruby Beets in Sag Harbor, NY
