9) Poetry ~ This art form tugs ever so deeply at my heart strings…how can a few choice words change how I perceive the world around me? I’m transfixed by its power to awaken the soul

Touch me by Stanley Kunitz

Summer is late, my heart.
Words plucked out of the air
some forty years ago
when I was wild with love
and torn almost in two
scatter like leaves this night
of whistling wind and rain.
It is my heart that’s late,
it is my song that’s flown.
Outdoors all afternoon
under a gunmetal sky
staking my garden down,
I kneeled to the crickets trilling
underfoot as if about
to burst from their crusty shells;
and like a child again
marveled to hear so clear
and brave a music pour
from such a small machine.
What makes the engine go?
Desire, desire, desire.
The longing for the dance
stirs in the buried life.
One season only,
………………….and it’s done.
So let the battered old willow
thrash against the windowpanes
and the house timbers creak.
Darling, do you remember
the man you married? Touch me,
remind me who I am.

5) My bedroom ~ A soothing cocoon filled with some of my favorite finds…a vintage 1940s headboard re-upholstered in black wool cashmere, a Richard Ginori table lamp, an Italian burled olive wood dresser, a forlorn chair re-imagined in white linen and trimmed with humble upholstery tacks and a collection of personal photos and art…it’s the last thing I see before I fall asleep at night and the first thing I see when I open my eyes in the morning…

Tomorrow morning, I leave bright and early for High Point, North Carolina to attend High Point Market! With camera in hand, I promise to bring back inspiring photos and highlights from the show! Already on my wish list ~ Oly, Baker, Tara Shaw Maision, and Dransfield & Ross just to few a few! My flat shoes are packed for what promises to be a whirlwind trip filled with fabulous furniture, textiles, accessories, art and more…see you soon!

While I’m away, I’ll be posting some personal tidbits inspired by Elle Decor’s monthly feature, 12 things he/she can’t live without…from fashion to travel, I thought this might be a fun departure from the norm…ok, let’s begin!

12 things I can’t live without

1) Anne Fontaine ~ For me, there is nothing like the feel and fit of an Anne Fontaine blouse or sweater..feminine, flirty, sophisticated and undeniably French, I’m instantly seduced by her designs…when in Boston, shop at the Boylston Street store (followed by tea at the Four Seasons!)

2) Provincetown, MA ~ Summer would not be complete without a trip to Provincetown…sunsets at Herring Cove, a glass of champagne on the porch of the Red Inn, a visit to the Packard Gallery, a morning stroll through the picturesque dunes…heaven!

Juice of 6 lemons
4 tablespoons sugar
6 fresh mint leaves
4 shots vodka
Ice in shaker
1 sugar-rimmed martini glass

Mix lemon juice, sugar and vodka in a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake well and pour into sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with mint. (Serves 2)
