It seems everywhere I look, the design world is embracing color…vibrant hues in wild combinations…I, on the other hand, can’t seem to shake my passion for gray…rich charcoals, feather weight pale blue grays, I’m drawn to them all…may you find beauty in these expressive interiors…

frette ~ casa mollino

Today’s post features six new designs from the Frette 2011-2012 fall/winter collection…photographed in the 18th century Italian apartment of famed architect Carlo Mollino, it is a brilliant study in juxtaposition…the fanciful colored bedding seems right at home with the ornate gilt moldings, Japanese inspired lighting and mid century furniture…what a wonderful fantasy…

masculine and romantic, this log cabin is thoughtfully re-imagined for today’s lifestyle…located on a hillside in Norway, it’s a little Ralph Lauren meets a Norwegian lumberjack…I can only imagine how beautiful it must be on a snowy day with the fire blazing…

michelangelo buonarroti

Michelangelo Buonarroti…arguably one of the greatest artists of all time, he created works of sublime beauty that express the full breadth of the human condition…when I experience his art or read his words, I find his spirit to be quite alive…a timeless soul with a timeless message…

Poem by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564)

Ravished by all that to the eyes is fair,

Yet hungry for the joys that truly bless,

My soul can find no stair

To mount to heaven, save the earth’s loveliness.

For from the stars above

Descends a glorious light

That lifts our longing to their highest height

And bears the name of love.

Nor is there aught can move

A gentle heart, or purge or make it wise,

But beauty and the starlight of her eyes.

Translated into English by George Santayana (1863-1952)
