With yesterday’s bedroom post still on my mind, I thought it might be fun to write about my own bedroom today, my take on House Beautiful’s monthly feature “I love my bed.” For those of you who read “a thoughtful eye” everyday, you may recall the images I posted of my bedroom dresser and just recently the silver chandelier but I have yet to share with you my favorite find, a vintage 1940s headboard! Our bedroom is very very small so my design challenge was to find a KING headboard to fit under the angle of our ceiling. Besides the size requirements, I had my heart set on finding a vintage piece, something that would stand the test of time. I searched for almost a year before finding this beauty and it was worth the wait. Although it needed to be repainted and reupholstered, it was otherwise in mint condition and was exactly the height I was looking for. It’s hard to see in the photos but the frame is actually metal (painted in our trim color white) and the button tufted piece I had reupholstered in black wool cashmere. I kept the bedding simple ~ soft, luxurious white sheets and for those cold winter nights, a white cotton duvet covered down comforter and a black faux fur throw blanket by Pierre Frey. The side tables were another challenge ~ they needed to play a supporting role to the glorious headboard and once again fit the very specific size requirements. I lucked out finding these small scale, round, black lacquered side tables from Brocade Home. Perfect size for the small corner space and a lovely pedestal for the ever stylish Artemide reading lamps. Still enough room for a favorite object, glass of water, and of course an alarm clock (a great vintage looking find from Ikea at only $9.99 each!)
I love my bedroom because it has developed over time…we addressed our wants and needs and were able to create a warm, one of a kind cocoon, perfect for sleeping and daydreaming about all things beautiful…
