Today’s post features the Madrid home of Santiago Castillo, brother of designer Lorenzo Castillo…Santiago is an artist and is responsible for many of the gorgeous abstract paintings in Lorenzo’s home…how wonderful to have so much talent in one family! Santiago’s home is designed by brother Lorenzo and although there are some common threads between the two homes, Santiago’s environment feels more like a masculine pied-a-terre, somewhat pared down and carefully edited compared to the rich, bold layers of Lorenzo’s masterful 11,000 square foot home…black walls and time worn wood floors in the dining room and living room set off the graphic art, stacks of beloved books and various collections of natural curiosities…brilliant use of mirrors expand the space and reflect the light throughout (in fact, this reminds me of YSL’s Salon de Musique, Hall of Mirrors…black walls adorned with 15 bronze mirrors by Claude Lalanne for the music room of their rue de Babylone apartment…I wonder if this was an inspiration for them!)…and I just have to point out one of my favorite details, the horn handles on the pockets doors in the photo above…an extraordinary detail that makes all the difference…sigh…
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
